With custom-made high-quality dental veneers, your Los Alamitos dentist Dr. Edward Luong can help you achieve a camera-ready smile of your own in just a few visits.

What Are Veneers?

Veneers are thin shells, usually made of porcelain, that are fitted over your natural teeth. These shells can be used to hide a wide range of flaws in your smile, including stained or discolored teeth, teeth that are chipped or cracked, even uneven, misshapen, or too-small teeth. Gaps between your teeth can be masked with veneers as well, giving you a beautiful, healthy-looking smile.

We can use veneers to improve the appearance of a single tooth, all of your front teeth, or your whole mouth! With proper care and regular check-ups, high-quality porcelain veneers can last several years without needing replacement, giving you a long-lasting movie star smile.

How Do I Get Veneers?

The veneer process usually takes a few weeks and requires multiple visits to our Los Alamitos dental office. During your first visit, we will take an impression of your teeth to ensure a proper fit for your veneers. The surface of your natural teeth will usually need some small adjustments to ensure the veneers look natural and have a good surface to bond to. We will remove a thin layer of your enamel to make room for the veneers and lightly etch the surface of your teeth to create a rough surface for bonding.

Dr. Luong will help you select a natural-looking color for your veneers, especially if we are only placing veneers on some of your teeth. We want your smile to look beautiful and natural, not fake!

When your veneers are ready, you will return to our office, where we will check that the fit and appearance of your veneers is correct. Small adjustments can be made to the shape of the veneers if necessary, and then they are bonded to your teeth and polished. You'll leave our office with a beautiful bright smile you won't be able to resist showing off!

Caring for Veneers

Veneers don't require much extra care. Brush and floss as you normally do to keep them clean. Avoid chewing on hard objects such as hard candies, ice, or pencils or pens. The pressure from biting on these objects can loosen or damage your veneers, requiring them to be re-bonded or possibly even replaced.

Porcelain veneers are stain-resistant.They may discolor at the margins (along the gumline), but proper home care including regular brushing and flossing will minimize the likelihood of this staining. Composite veneers resist stains as well, but they can discolor over time just like your natural teeth, especially if you smoke or eat and drink a lot of staining foods such as coffee, tea, red wine, and dark berries. If your veneers become stained, they cannot be bleached using teeth whitening products and will have to be replaced to restore their color, so make sure you brush well after these foods. If you plan to have your teeth whitened, we recommend doing so before you start the veneers process to ensure a proper color match.
